Workout Wednesday

Happy Hump Day!  I am just one step closer to the weekend.  Last week if I got a work out in I was grateful.  With school starting up again this week it was hard to fit the workouts in with everything going on.

Wednesday with cheer I wasn't able to workout.  I really need to suck it up and start doing things at home if I can't get to the gym.  That should be my new years resolution.  Thursday I thought I was going to make it to the gym since cheer was cancelled but instead the group of moms I hang out with wanted to do a girls night out before school started.  So instead I went for a quick run.  I ran about two miles.  Friday, my usual boot camp day got replaced with a birthday party that started at five-thirty and didn't end until nine-thirty.  I finally figured out that while we have home games and if I want up Madeline early enough I can make it to kickboxing and make it in time for her games.  Unfortunately, this weekend coming up is an away game and I wont have time.  Sunday was a flop to because I spent half the day driving around and then the monsoons came around in the afternoon-evening time.

I can keep going with my excuses but I'll spare you.  Last night I was finally able to work out.  When I do boot camp it feels like I make up for all the days I haven't been able to make it.  Last night did not disappoint!  We started with two-hundred jumping jacks as our warm up.  Then we had for rounds of wall balls/ burpees.  For those of you who have never had the unfortunate opportunity  to do a wall ball/ burpee consists of doing a wall ball then bring the ball down and doing a burpee.  Fun times let me tell you! We started with ten and increased each round by ten. As if that wasn't hard enough, between each round we had to do fifty ball slams.  I did all of this with a ten pound medicine ball.  On the bright side my instructor told me my wall balls are getting much higher!

While working out and looking like a hot mess, we were discussing how some people leave the gym looking like they have never worked out or go in fully decked out.  I am definitely not one of those.  I happened to have on a top that says "I don't sweat I sparkle" on last night.  My  devilish lovely instructor pointed out that I definitely was sweating and not sparkling!  Thanks a lot.  I may not have been sparkling but at least I know I got a good workout.

Wednesday Workouts

While I am no where near where I was working out wise I am getting back into the swing of things.  Those days I don't make it to the gym I could always work out at home but it is some much harder with the kids and a dog.  I know I am just making excuses for myself and I really should just suck it up.

This past week I was lucky enough to be able to work out five times.  I did boot camp one day which left me sore for three days.  We had to do a four exercises; kettle bell swings, gobble squats, lunges all with weights (I used a 15 pound kettle bell), and then burpees.  For a minute with ten second rest in between.  We did five rounds of that.  I always say that if I don't leave saying I hate you to my instructor it isn't a good workout.  I was definitely saying I hate you that night.

Last night I was able to go to boot camp as well and it was all about the arms.  There were five rounds.  We started off with ten wall balls and ball slams with a medicine ball (mine was a ten pound one), and ten push ups.  Then it went up to twenty five, then to 50, then back down to twenty-five, ending with ten.  In between each round ten burpees.  To finish us off at the end we had to do 120 triceps extensions with the medicine ball.  I can barely move my arms today.

The other days when I could I would go to kickboxing and because I ended up not being able to go twice during the week and I aim for working out six days I week I went running for a bit on Sunday.  I am also in the process of doing an ab challenge I found on Pinterest.

Gotta get those workouts in somehow!  Hope everyone has a good rest of the week!

Workout Wednesdays

The past few weeks have sucked because I haven't been able to work out like I usually do.  Now that I am finally getting back into the swing of things Madeline's cheerleading schedule picks up.

Last week I was able to work out three times.  Kickboxing which is never actually easy really kicked my butt.  I also tried a boxing class which was a lot of fun.  It is exactly like my kickboxing but without the kicking.  I liked it a lot because it was all arms which is one of my problem areas.  Last night I was able to do a boot camp class which like last week whipped the floor with me.  At the end of it I laid on the concrete and it actually felt comfortable.  Last week was a repeat of a work out we have done before.  We ran one minute worth of sprints back and forth for ten minutes with a minute rest in between.  Then we deducted the amount of sprints from 200 and whatever number you were left with was how many burpees you had to do. I was left with 89!  Let me tell you after a week off from working out 89 burpees suck ass!

Last night we had to do suicides once that was completed 5 ball slams, and a burpee.  As if I wasn't still sore from kickboxing on Monday I am barely able to walk but it feels amazing.  Since cheer is starting again I happened to find a boot camp that is offered at the park where my daughter practices.  I am going to give them a call and see what it is all about and if its priced reasonable.  Hopefully it is something I can do instead.

Food wise I have been doing good.  Nothing crazy.  Although at Madeline's season kick off party I did enjoy some a lot of the spinach artichoke dip with pita chips.  I really need it out of my house ASAP.

Hope everyone is having a good Hump Day.  Its even better since this is a short week and there is only one day left of the work weeks.

Wednesday Workouts

I have been horrible this week with my posts.  It is the end of the year and as home room mom and as a mom in general I have been running around like crazy.  On the bright side I am thrilled for the month of June to be here.  I am finally able to get back into my old workout routine.  Last week my Madeline's cheer ended for a month which meant I was able to go to my Tuesday boot camp.  I'm excited now that I got through the hell which some call a workout.

Tuesday night we had to run 800 meters in under a minute.  No problem if you didn't just have to complete five minutes worth of 30 ball slams, 30 jump squats, 30 push ups, and 30 kettle bell swings with a 25 pound kettle bell.  If you did not complete the run in under a minute you had to add 20 burpees to the end of the workout.  I feel great that I was able to complete the run in under a minute so no extra burpees.  However, right when we thought it was safe to go home the instructor informed us that we had to do 100 wall slams.  The good thing to all that torture was when I was leaving someone said they noticed that I was looking stronger!

Last Friday our boot camp consisted of four stations.  Each station lasted six minutes, alternating a minute of  of the work out and a minute of jumping jacks or jump rope.  The stations consisted of ball slams while jumping side to side, kettle bell swings, push-ups using a ten pound weight, bicep curls with 15 pound weights, and pushing the sand bags.  Technically we were supposed to pull the sand bags but my wrists were killing me.  It felt like they were going to dislocate themselves.  The instructor suggested pushing instead and said because I broke my wrist when I was younger that was probably why I was in so much pain.

What I love about all these workouts is that you really could do them at home and modify them to your level of fitness.  I post so much details for that reason.

Food wise I really didn't do to much out of the ordinary.  Saturday night we went to a local restaurant called Tap 42.  They are known for their amazing burgers and variety of beers.  If you live in South Florida definitely check it out.  Since I am not a burger eater I got the turkey burger without a bun and had them put on the toppings from another burger.  Instead of fries I had them give me a side of Brussels sprouts which while I'm sure weren't steamed I figured they were still healthier then fries.  Sunday was my Madeline's piano recital and we went to a Mexican restaurant after for lunch.  I got two corn taco's with shrimp which were amazing and not horribly unhealthy either.

We definitely eat out A LOT but I always try to make healthy choices when we do.  I tend to stick with salads with balsamic dressing but every now and then like this weekend I venture off and enjoy myself.  Hope everyone has a good rest of the week.

Wednesday Workout

This past week because of Madeline's cheerleading I was only able to work out four days.  At least it is something right?  Last season during cheerleading some of the other moms and I would walk the track and get in two and a half miles.  Right now unfortunately we haven't been able to get back to that.  I'm hoping once season does start and I'm not doing cheer mom duties I can get back at it.  I also saw that the park where the girls practice offers a boot camp.  I want to investigate more and convince the other moms to join me.  Since I knew I wasn't going to be able to go to my usual Tuesday night boot camp the girl's coach and another mother and I grabbed some workouts off of pinterest and started doing them on the field.  I'm sure we were very entertaining.  Our workout consisted of a 45 second plank, 50 squats, 15 push ups, 15 dips, 20 sit ups, 20 leg raises, and 1 minute of jumping jacks.  I always try to remember that even if it isn't a full workout its something.

Last Friday I was able to do my usual boot camp and I always feel like if I haven't been able to make a workout it makes up for it.  Boot camp this time was made up of six stations.  Each station lasted two minutes with a minute break in between.   The exercises were kettle bell squats with either a 25 or 35 pound kettle bell, jump squats with an eight pound weight, pushups, sprawls, burpees, and ball slams.  The entire time I was thinking for boot camps this was a pretty easy one.  How mistaken was I.  Right when we were getting to our last station the instructor informed us we would be going another round each station being only a minute.  He also happened to switch up the exercises.  Round two consisted of kettle bell swings, burpees, v-ups, arm raises with the medicine ball, jumps over the parking bumper, and arm swings with a weight.  We were supposed to do a minute of the workout and a minute of sprints.  As usual I left drenched in sweat and barely able to move.  Overall a great workout!

Saturday I thought our kick boxing class wouldn't have any of the exercises we used the night before because the instructor had been in the boot camp with us.  I was very wrong! My legs were on fire.  I had every plan on making up my missed workout on Sunday but my legs were begging me to take the day off.

Monday my gym was only having an early morning class because of the Holiday.  Usually when there are classes on a Holiday my lovely instructor kicks it up ten notches and the class lasts at least an hour.  He did not fail us, his mentality is that we are going to eat a little more and drink a little more so this way we wont feel so guilty. I guess I really should be thanking him...

Workout Wednesday

I missed last weeks workout Wednesday since we were in Disney so I am going to double up a bit.

The week before Easter I did my usual workouts of kickboxing and boot camp.  That Friday before at boot camp we were taken to the back parking lot to be tortured work out.  We each stood in a parking spot and were made to run sprints between the spot where we stood to the one in front of us for a minute.  We then rested for a minute.  We continued this for ten rounds.  As if that wasn't enough depending on how many sprints we did the instructor deducted the total amount from 150.  Whatever was remaining in my case 42 was how many burpees you had to do. Fun times!  The next day I woke up feeling achy but went to kickboxing anyways, hoping that I would sweat out whatever I may be getting.  Sunday was Easter and my usual rest day so I didn't do anything.

Monday we left for Disney and while I didn't actually work out we did walk A LOT! Walking the parks for hours while pushing a stroller and carrying a two year old while waiting in line should count for something.  We got back from Disney Thursday night.  I had every intention of going to boot camp that following Friday.  My body had other plans.  I woke up Friday feeling like death.  Obviously working out was not in the cards for me.  Saturday I felt better but still not 100% so I didn't push myself.  I wanted to rest and recuperate.  Sunday I did the same.

This past Monday was my son's birthday and I obviously wasn't going to make it to workout at the gym.  Instead I went for a quick run.  Last night I jumped back in and went to boot camp.  It was all upper body and I am definitely feeling it today.  For thirty minutes we had to do a combination of wall balls, ball slams, kettle bell rows (lawn mower exercise) on each arm, and push ups.  We started at 10 reps and increased it by five each round.  I used a 10 pound ball for the wall balls and ball slams and a 15 pound kettle bell for the rows.  After not working out for a week I was proud of myself for getting up to 25 reps.

Food wise I've done OK considering I was in Disney for four days.  Everything I ate the weekend of Easter was basically erased since I got sick from over doing it.  Disney I can't say that I did too bad except for our day at Epcot.  It was the Flower and Garden Show and they always have special food and drinks.  That was my worse day and I didn't do to to bad since the portions are pretty small.  When we returned and because I got sick again I has zero appetite. Thankfully I am back on track and doing better.  Last night we had a yummy turkey meatloaf.

I want to try and get back to eating more at home.  I need to start planning my meals ahead.  Lets see how this new goal  goes.
